I came to learn of this turmeric face mask (also called Huruud) from watching my aunts and mum use it several times a week. It’s a traditional part of a Somali beauty regime. From the youthful, blemish free skin I've seen on my mum and aunts, it works! It’s an ancient recipe. I started making it a part of my beauty regime just a couple years ago. I love the natural tinted glow it gives me and the yogurt adds suppleness to my skin that’s addicting!
1 teaspoon of Turmeric
Half teaspoon of Gram flour
1 teaspoon of Yogurt
half teaspoon of Olive oil.
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Apply before bed 1 to 3 times a week as desired using an application spoon or brush, as turmeric stains!
Leave on for 20 minutes. Lightly wet your face and gently scrub in a circular motion before rinsing off thoroughly.
Wash any stains around the sink immediately. Follow with your moisturizer.
The turmeric spice, commonly used in our cuisine, doesn't just taste good. It has many wonderful healing properties: It is antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. All of which make it highly effective to reduce many common skin conditions such as acne, rashes, pigmentation and blemishes. Not only does turmeric take care of scars and inflammation but it reduces oil secretion from sebaceous glands which is amazing for those humid summer months and for those with greasy skin.
We know yogurt is packed with live cultures and good bacteria. The zinc and lactic acid contained in yogurt acts as a natural moisturizer and is responsible for promoting supple, youthful skin. Because of its acid nature, yogurt also fights bacteria that cause pimples and acne! Make sure to get unsweetened, organic yogurt with live cultures.
Chick pea flour / Gram Flour:
